Hello everyone!

Wednesday was my one-month mark! A lot sure has happened in one month.

Earlier this week my companion, Elder Nielsen, and I got a call from the Chinese Missionaries. They told us that they double booked that day and asked if we could go teach one of their investigators. We told them we would. They told us to ask her about her prayers, read the scriptures with her, and answer her questions.

When we got there her dad who didn't speak any English let us in. We waited for her for few minutes. When she got there we asked her if she'd been praying. She said she had. We asked her if she'd been reading she said she had, but that she didn't understand it very well. So she read 1 Nephi 13 out loud to us and would ask us questions to help her understand. But none of her questions were about the gospel or even the meaning of the verses. All she asked us about was vocabulary. It felt like an English lesson.

When we got back to our apartment the Chinese Elders called us. They asked us how the lesson went. We told them that it felt like all she wanted to do was learn English. Then the Chinese Elders said, “We are going to come clean with you guys. We didn't have a scheduling conflict. We've been wondering what her intentions are for a while. We wanted to see how she would act with different missionaries. Seeing as she didn't ask you any gospel questions that says a lot. But thank you so much for helping us out. Sorry, we weren't being honest with you."

Elder Nielsen and I were so surprised. We're still laughing about it days later. It's so funny that the Chinese Missionaries were able to trick Nielsen, the investigator, and me.

Last P-day we were hanging out with two other companionships. We all went to Chipotle for lunch and after that, we were still hungry, so we went to an ice cream place called "Sweet Berry". It was honestly some of the best ice cream I've ever had. They serve the ice cream in a crepe instead of a cone. It's awesome! You guys will have to let me know if you've ever been to one. I don't know if it's a chain or independent.

Elder Nielsen got a Halloween package from his family. There was some candy, a couple of sweaters, and a box of balloons with instructions on how to make animals with them. Every night since then Elder Nielsen's been playing with those balloons. He made a dog the first night, and he's spent all the other nights trying to make a monkey. He hasn't succeeded yet.

Speaking of Halloween ours will be very underwhelming. Our mission president told us we couldn’t go out on Halloween, or hang out with other missionaries. He said if we wanted something to do we could study, do our weekly planning, or go to bed early. I'm probably gonna get some candy today so that the holiday isn't a total waste.

The weather's getting colder; basically, every day is sweater weather. Last night we got to our apartment after dinner at like 7ish. It was pouring rain but we still had two hours till we were supposed to stop working. We decided to check in on some former investigators. So we went to the apartment and grabbed a raincoat. I still don't have a raincoat so I used Elder Nielsen's and he used his umbrella. On our way out we were saying that any person with half a brain would just call it a night.

We ended up talking to a guy at his door. He complimented us on our dedication and asked if we wanted any bottled water or anything. We told him we were fine. He asked us if we would come at a different time when he wasn't trying to put his kid to bed. We told him we would and left him with a card.

He might have been trying to get rid of us, but I felt good about it. And either way, we are going to visit his house again. And it was a good testimony builder because we showed our dedication and faith by working in bad conditions and were blessed with a good conversation with a nice person, and a tentative follow-up appointment.

Scripture of the week:
And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it.
                                            -Mosiah 2:41

Stay safe and have a great Halloween!
From the real slim shady -Eli
I've named thise selfie "The Face o' Dedication". It's hard to tell because the photo's dark, but I am very wet and using a raincoat that is too small.
