Week 16, 2-15-2018

Wasqua!

Earlier this week we went to CVS to pick up some medications for me. When we were there A– came in out of nowhere. (A– is one of the guys that got baptized a few weeks ago.) We hadn't seen him for a while because he's been going to the young single adult ward and meeting with their missionaries.  He told us about how happy he's been since his baptism. He told us about how because of us he was able to stop smoking and drinking alcohol completely. He said that his mom and brother have shown interest in the church too. Before we parted ways he thanked us for introducing him to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and "changing his life." As a missionary, I've heard that the work I'm doing is changing lives for generations to come. It was just nice to see that change in a person. I don't know how to describe it, but he seemed different. I noticed the same thing happened with S– after her baptism and confirmation. It's because of people like them that you can tell that baptism isn't just a ceremony to join a church or just a demonstration of faith. Baptism through the proper authority is truly a way to have complete freedom from your past mistakes.

So as you might remember from week 15's email that transfers were this week. We gave two other missionaries from a biking area a ride to transfers. Elder Nielsen and one of the Elders we gave a ride were both getting transferred. We had to fit all of their stuff into a Toyota Corolla. Somehow we did it.

My new companion’s name is Elder Roper. He has been out for about 18 months and is from Preston Idaho. (Preston is the small town that Napoleon Dynamite was filmed in.) The two of us relate on a lot of levels. We are both total nerds. We spend a lot of time when we're driving talking about Lord of the Rings, Disney Movies, Anime, or video games.

The other day a member took us out for dinner. We went to a small, but fancy independent Korean restaurant. I had a huge bowl of ramen. There was also a conveyer belt that went by our table full of sushi and things. From that, I tried raw octopus and fire rolls (I think they had crab in them.) Octopus wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It took me a hot minute to actually chew and swallow it. But the fire rolls were really good. The best part for me was something called mochi we had for dessert. It's kind of like ice cream with a skin. Trust me it tastes way better than it sounds.

I drew a picture of an old wizard and a goblin this week. I need you guys to send me a message on my email or Google hangout telling me what they should be saying to each other.

Stay safe and look around once in awhile.
