week 21, 2-19-18

Hi people,

So we got transfers again this week. Nothing much is changing for me though, still in the same area with Elder Roper. A couple of people in our district are getting transferred, but that's to be expected. One cool thing is that Elder Jensen, one of my roommates in the MTC, will be transferred to my zone, so it's going to be really cool to see more of him.

The other day we went on exchanges with the Chinese Elders. Elder Roper went to their area and one of them; Elder Chang came here. Elder Chang is from Taiwan and Chinese is his first language. The interesting part is that the exchange was on the 15th which some of you may know was Chinese New Year’s Eve. At dinner Elder Chang asked the family we were eating with if he could take a pictures to send to his family. (Chinese New Year is basically like Christmas to people in China and Taiwan.) Dinner was also the first time that Elder Chang had Mexican food.

Sunday was a really good day. A member of the ward who hadn't been coming has been coming for the past few weeks, and yesterday he came to the class that we help teach. He told us that he wants to be there for his kids, and he knows the only way to do that is to be a good person and start coming back to church. He even told us about how he's gotten rid of all of his vices (namely smoking), and he told us that he wanted to help the ward with anything that we needed. It always makes me happy to see someone successfully make a change to their life like that.

Sunday night we had what's called the NARMF (new and returning member fireside). The NARMF is a meeting for all the newly baptized members of our church, members who are coming back to church, and missionaries. The chapel that we met in was completely full. I don't think I saw one empty seat, even in the front row. We went with M– and his friend. We were able to hear the testimonies of our mission president, and his wife– the Huntsmans.  We also heard the conversion story of three wonderful people. It was awesome to hear these people talk about how they were able to get over their addictions by working hard and relying on God; whether it was smoking, alcohol, drugs, or self-harming, they all were able to break through and change their life.

Stay safe and don't do anything fun without me.
