Weeks 33 & 34, 5/7 & 5/14

Week 33, 5/7/18

What's up people?

So quite a bit happened this week, hopefully I can remember everything I wanted to talk about. The first big thing was that our car was in the shop. So we were without a car for about five days. A lot of missionaries are in areas without cars, but the difference is that we had to cover two areas without a car. And not only that, most missionaries have bikes to help them get around, but because I have a heart condition, my mission president, his wife, and the mission nurse won't put me in a biking area. So because I know I'm not going to be in a bike area, I don't have a large need for a bike. So to get around this week we either had to walk or get rides from members. And the best part is that it's starting to heat up here. It's not as bad as Arizona or Texas, but I wasn't walking for three hours straight in Arizona or Texas, so it was pretty hot. Luckily we got our car back Friday evening so we didn't have to wait over the weekend for it.

The first of the month was Elder Roper's 20th birthday. His family sent him a lot of silly gifts and the stuff to make himself a birthday cake. He also got a lot of money in cards. Seeing as we have a mutual love of the television show Naruto, I got him a ninja headband from it, and I also got myself one while I was at it.

We had interviews with our mission president this week, and one of the silly things that Elder Roper got from his family was a pack of mustaches. Seeing as missionaries aren't supposed to have facial hair we thought it would be funny for President Huntsman to see us with our fake staches. So we walked in with our upper lips adorned, and President got a kick out of it. He went as far as to say that I looked good with it (he didn't say the same to Elder Roper.)

Star Wars day was this week. There's not much to say about it seeing as we can't watch the movies. But it's one of my favorite holidays, so I can't fail to mention it.

The young women in the Fairfax ward had a cookie dough fundraiser. I suppose that a lot of members donated to support the young women program rather than for the cookie dough. So we got two tubs from one of the young women leaders. We then got another tub from a family in the ward. Next, we got a tub from a retired woman in the ward, and then we got word that a young family who is having us over for dinner bought a tub for us and will make the cookies for us when we come over. So yes that is a total of five tubs of cookie dough, Mom. If it makes you feel any better we'll probably cook like half of it and eat the rest raw.

On Sunday M–got the priesthood. M– is one of the people I was lucky enough to teach and help prepare for baptism. Although he was baptized in late December he didn't feel like he was ready for the priesthood yet. He asked us how he would know when he was ready and how he could prepare. We told him to read the Duty to God handbook, talk to his bishop, and pray about it. But then out of nowhere during sacrament meeting, they announced that he would be receiving the priesthood. After sacrament, he stopped me in the hall and asked if I would be the one to confer the priesthood on him. Of course, it was a little nerve-racking because I had never been the voice in a priesthood confirmation before, but I was able to do it in one try. I'm really happy that M– is continuing to progress in the gospel, or as they say in the Bible– endure to the end.

Week 34, 5/14/18

What's up people?

So I feel as if a lot happened this week, but because it was so crazy, I don't remember any of it. The reason it was so crazy was because Elder Roper and I were stressing about transfers. We were both guessing that I was going to be leaving the area because I've been here for over seven months.

So when we went to the church building to get the transfer email with Elder Shakespeare and Norton, we were surprised to see President Huntsman there. Apparently, he was playing basketball with his sons; he immediately just came up to us and told us what was happening because he said he couldn’t keep a secret.

So basically he’d spent all day trying to figure out what to do with Elder Roper and me, and in the end, he made a full circle. The two of us are staying in WakeFax for another six weeks. And the interesting part is that Elder Roper is going home in 6 weeks, so it is most likely that I will be staying 6 more weeks after that. If that is the case I will break the mission record for longest time in my first area.

In other news Elder Roper is the new district leader, Elder Norton is staying in the Braddock YSA ward and Elder Shakespeare is going down to Quantico. (Quantico is the place with the big aircraft hanger in Transformers 2.)

Stay safe and vote for Floop 2020.
